Picturesque and pristine, Hawaii's sun and surf are considered by the world as the very definitions of tropical paradise. Contrary to popular belief however, the Hawaiian Islands do experience changes in its weather patterns, "seasons" that alter temparature and rainfall in subtle and sometimes dramatic ways.
The Hawaiian "summer," or Kau, runs from May thru October with an average daytime temperature of 85 F degrees. The winter months, or Ho'oilo, last from November thru April with temperatures 78 F degrees and lower, with some nighttime temperatures hitting the low 60s. Through most of the year, Hawaii is blessed with cool trade winds due to high-pressure zones in the north Pacific. During the "wet" months of November thru March, rainfall may increase from light showers to sudden downpours, although these rarely last for long as even in the wintertime, the sun dominates Hawaiian skies.
