HawaiianFabricShop.com Craft Project: Tropical Satches

Our Winter Craft Project is Tropical Satches. Our Tropical Satches are perfect as inexpensive, handmade party favors!

Collect the following supplies:

  • Braided Rafia

  • Scraps of Hawaiian Printed Fabric

  • Scraps of Paper, approximately 4” (h) x 6” (w)

  • Pinking Shears

Instructions:

Step #1: Draw a 3” (h) x 4.5” (w) rectangle on the paper (alternately, use a tracing wheel and tracing paper to trace the 3” x 4.5” rectangle directly onto the non-printed side of the fabric).

Step #2: Place the printed side of each fabric against (facing) each other (with both non-printed sides facing out). Place the pattern on top of the fabric and sew 3 out of the 4 sides of the rectangle starting with a long side (making sure to back-stitch), continuing on to the short side then to the remaining long side ( remembering to back-stitch again when reaching the end of the 3rd side).

Step #3: Using the pinking shears, cut off the excess fabric around the sewn area, leaving a seam of approximately 1/4”. On the open side, cut across the remaining short side of the rectangle. Cut off any loose strings. Turn back inside out so the printed side of the fabric is now on the outside.

Step #4: Place your sealed/pre-packaged item(s) into the bag and tie shut with rafia. For a twist, use Braided Rafia.

Filler ideas:bath salts (label as such, to avoid accidental consumption), small pre-packaged candy, sandlewood blocks, rice, etc. The possibilities are endless as you can adjust the size of your bag using larger fabric to fit bigger items.

Enjoy your HawaiianFabricShop.com Tropical Satches!
